Jorge Otero-Pailos

Jorge Otero-Pailos is professor and director of Historic Preservation at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture in New York. Jorge works at the intersection of art, architecture, and preservation, and his work has been commissioned by and exhibited at major museums, foundations, and biennials, notably the Venice Art Bienniale, Victoria and Albert Museum, Louis Vuitton Museum La Galerie, Artangel Trust, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. His books include Architecture’s Historical Turn (2010) and (as co-editor) Experimental Preservation. He is the founder and editor of the journal Future Anterior and a contributor to journals and books including the Oxford Encyclopedia of Aesthetics and Preservation is overtaking us. He is a member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences of Puerto Rico, the Academy of Science and Culture of Ibero-America, and recipient of awards from the American Institute of Architects, the Kress Foundation, the Graham Foundation, the Fitch Foundation, the Canadian Center for Architecture, and UNESCO. Otero-Pailos studied architecture at Cornell University and holds a PhD from MIT. He was a founding faculty member of the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.
